I am working with a bf mother of a 16 month old who had a positive tb
skin test. Follow up chest x-ray was clear. She has previously had
negative tb skin tests. She was attempting to get pregnant with the
intention of continuing to nurse her toddler. A doctor at the Board of
Health has put her on INH(Isoniazid) 300mg once per day. He told her to
take it for 6 months, to wean, and not to get pregnant for the 6 months
of prophylactic treatment. Toddler's ped said wean. I told her not to
start the medicine until we could talk to her ob who is very supportive
of bf. The mother and I were both leaning toward a second opinion. Yes,
I read Dr Hale and the 300mg study concerned me. With the help of ob the
mother has an appt. with a pulmonary dr next Wed the 17th. I told her I
would ask the experts on Lactnet. It is great to have ya'll(that's
southern for you guys) as a resource. Thanks in advance.
