Regarding the Idaho mom: does anyone know if she has contacted Liz Baldwin?
That would be an obvious first step. Liz is always interested in cases like
this.
I think the person who posted about emphasizing the primary caretaker role
and need of the young child for her/his mother rather than the breastfeeding
was right. When I was a LLL Professional Liaison Leader and we had legal
situations, we were always advised to emphasize this aspect with a child over
a year. Much as we all know that breastfeeding past 2 or 3 is normal and
important, when dealing with the legal system, we must acknowledge some of
the "givens" of the culture. My experience (limited though it is) is that
the "primary caretaker" argument tends to have more clout than emphasizing
the breastfeeding. Miriam Levitt RN, IBCLC in Berkeley, CA
