Paula spoke about using nipple shields for premature babies whose
mothers
had a good milk supply to facilitate transfer of milk. She said the
shields
allowed the infant to keep the nipple elongated better by maintaining a
higher intraoral suction and this allowed better compression of the
sinuses.
I don't think this has been published yet but....it mirrors my
experience exactly. This is one case in which I would use a shield in
the hospital.
