I have seen this a few times. I don't know if my experience is
enough to constitute a reliable "study", but here's what I've
noticed. Not sure if it's relavant or coincidence.
1.-Mom is usually pumping in a semi-reclining position instead of
being fully upright. (When we have a mom with postpartum
complications, on MgSO4, or fresh C/S, it's sometimes difficult for
them to sit fully upright at first).
2.-Milk is therefore going somewhat "uphill" before it can drop into
the collecting bottle.
3.-White "flap valve" in usually aimed upward when you remove the
assembled flange from the kit. This in turn further inhibits the
colostrum from dropping into the bottle.
I have found that if you turn the small yellow piece (sorry I don't
have an instruction booklet here to give the parts their correct
names) that the "flap valve" attaches to 180 degrees so the white
piece is pointing downward as mom pumps, the frothing does not
occur.
I'd be interested in hearing if any of the rest of you have noticed
this.
