Thanks for all of the great advice. I have some additional info from the
mom. (As per my initial mail, she's not my client but rather someone from
another list who gave me permission to forward).
The baby had no problems nursing for the first 5 weeks. She took him off
the breast for 1-1/2 weeks to treat her thrush (she didn't know and the LC
didn't tell her she could treat it while nursing), and he's had problems
ever since. He will go to the breast. Despite his
crying and gagging, he tries to latch on and pulls away, latches on and
pulls away, etc. She has very large breasts and only has success using the
football hold. He nursed for 7 minutes this morning and fell asleep, has
done this only occasionally since her trouble began.
It's unfortunate to have created this problem when he was doing fine, but
great that she is so determined to recover from the mistake. Her last
drawback is, she has to return to work in 2 weeks and is working very hard
to overcome this (nipple confusion and intimidation at normal letdown?)
before then.
Thanks,
Shannon
