Dear Friends:
I would recommend as much skin-to-skin care as this mother can do. And
holding baby in a warm water bath for calming and comfort. Definitely go for
co-sleeping. Also if the mother can be taught some infant massage techniques,
they could help.
The touch for cranial-sacral therapy is about the weight of a US nickel
on the skin. 5 grams or less. Less for a baby. Can't be taught in words.
However, the mother could place her hands gently on either side of the
baby's head or tummy and send loving energy or light from one hand to the
other, holding the desire and intention in her mind and heart to make a safe
world for baby to open into as she is doing this. The baby may direct her as
to where to place her hands. If the baby cries during this, the mother should
listen and witness and validate her baby's story.
Warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MSN, Mother of 2, IBCLC, ICCE, CSTP
