I agree that saline SHOULD be cheap, but it isn't. I have tried to buy it for
patients on several occasions for wound care. I have been told by all the
pharmists that I need a doctors prescription. It costs $16.09 for a 1000 ml
container. The pharmist didn't know why the 9 cents. I was told the reason it
requires a prescription is because of the filtration technique used. That was
the only reason the pharmist could come up with. This is the information I
just received from the pharmist. This is why I tell patients how to make it.
For those of you who missed my original posting on how to make it I will
repeat it.

Boil 6 cups of water for 20 minutes
allow to cool
put 4 cups in a sterile container
add 2 teaspoons of salt
or
1 pint of boiled water to 1 teaspoon of salt.
