I know this topic has been discussed extensively and I have just
completed a search of the archives, but I still need more information on
inducing lactation for an adoptive mother.
Mom just found out yesterday that they will be adopting the child of a 16
year old due in 4 weeks. Baby is projected to weigh around 6 pounds. The
biological mother is 3 cm dilated and the attending physician anticipates a
birth date a bit earlier than the due date.
Adoptive mother will be present in the birth room and would like to BF
baby. I searched for a protocol to give to this woman. Joan Fisher posted
a protocol in April of 1997 which involves pumping 120 min. daily with an
automatic cycling pump., Domperidone 20 mg. qid. Use of Lact-Aid Nursing
Trainer once baby arrives. She comments that she is glad that in Canada,
Reglan isn't necessary. Am I to assume that domperidone isn't available in
the US?
Is there anybody with experience here in Ohio? Books recommended?
I am a CBE with an interest in BF, not a lactation consultant, so I
want to point mom in the right direction and refer her to an experienced
professional.
     Thanks

tina
