I think the important thing to remember about contraceptives (progestin
only) is to start them AFTER the milk supply is well established and I do
not mean at the four or six week postpartum visit! If mom is BF only, I
think we can be reasonably sure of 8-10 weeks grace period. The info even
says reasonably sure for 4 mo or more, but most modern moms and drs don't
want to chance this. I think it interferes with milk supply when it is
begun way too soon after delivery (like at discharge, 2 weeks or four weeks
pp). That's my opinion. I tell moms to wait as long as they dare or feel
comfortable with and mention the earlier they start, the more likely the
chance of a decreased milk supply problem. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
