1. Some of you letter-writing professionals may want to write to Babies
'R' Us. In the catalog I just received, the inside cover advertises the
store's baby registry. Halfway down the page it says that if you
register now you will receive a resource guide and free shower
invitations..."Plus...Get this Free Cosmetic Bag! Filled w/ gifts for
mom...plus a gift certificate for a matching diaper bag! You'll also be
enrolled in the E****** F***** B*********...a Free program for new and
expectant moms! Congratulations from E******." There is a photo of
various cans of E****** , the new E***G*** products, etc. The cosmetic
bag is green w/ rabbits on it.
Also, on page 41 of the same catalog there is a photo of a mother w/ a
bottle to advertise a breastfeeding pillow. The description of the
pillow talks about breastfeeding, but the photo clearly doesn't mesh.
The snail-mail address for the company is: Babies "R" Us National
Office, 461 From Road, Paramus, NJ 07652
2. Has anyone used their facility's "corporate compliance" policy (or
similar HR policy) to push the "gift packs" out the door? Our hospital
will not allow local vendors to place coupons in packets for new parents
because it could be construed as steering parents toward a particular
business. So, I'm wondering how we can give them a certain brand of
diaper in childbirth classes and steer them toward a particular brand of
inferior food after they have their baby. Before I go on my HR
campaign, I'd love your input!
Warmly,
Rebecca DeYoung Daniels, MBA, RD, LD, CCE
