Hi
I'm responding to Pam Wiggins' post. I also viewed the program and
watched with interest how they handled the breastfeeding issue. My view
on this program was that there were negatives as well as positives about
the program. The positive? I was pleased to see a lactation specialist
and I liked the way she spoke about the benefits of breastfeeding when
she was on the stand. I only wish she had been a little more soft and
motherly and I wish she had had an answer about the question, "would
formula have killed the baby" or words to that effect.

I think this show did point out that you can't be black and white in
this business, doing so will only make the lactation field rigid and
unfriendly. We've all been instructed/educated to "feed the baby" and
"fix the problem" where "feed the baby" may mean the use of formula.

In this show, the lactation specialist, the clinic and the father were
implicated in this baby's death because of their actions. In the end
though, the mother was found guilty because "she is ultimately the
person responsible for the baby".

The show had merit and food for thought.

Finally, my question to all of you, does anybody really have a contract
that their clients/patients/mothers sign to exclusively breastfeed?
This show wasn't the first time I've heard the "contract" concept.
