Heather,

I have worked with a mother breastfeeding a six month old with a liver
transplant.  The baby was crying most of the time.  We didn't know why, but I
suspected it was his medication.  He acted like he had a headache, which was
one of the side effects of the meds.  Once they changed the dosage downward
he was better.  Mom's milk suffered and I don't think she was able to
continue fully breastfeeding, but she was able to do some.  Dad was in the
military and they move as soon as the baby was stablized.
