I wonder if it may also be the delivery of the milk. Many babies gulp
substantial amounts of air as they cope with the first couple of minutes of
nursing. By the time they would come off the breast and burp, the air that
has been swallowed is past the tummy and into the intestines where it hurts!
Having the mom stop to burp the baby after the first pause after the initial
MER may prevent a lot of between-feeding fussiness.
