My recollections of topics: increased IQ and decreased UTIs w/bf and
cummulative effect. Data on bf rates ross stats, the development of other
sources of data, cultural rates. reviewed the AAP statement, her involvement
on the board that developed it, her experience clinically working with it and
ideas for improvement next revision. she had some of the same concerns as
Barb WC did on Lactnet about the challenge of live unrehearsed tv interviews,
( i also can relate - recently on the local channel show "moms talk" but it
was fun) and talked about her recent appearance on the today show and related
an opinion that (drum roll here) care should be taken not put an outer limit
on bf duration. the importance of prenatal bf ed, pacifiers as a marker for
troubled bf, various alt fdg methods, jaundice, early cues (i told her about
the "s" words i use) early f/u, breast surgery, I&O eval, test wts issues.

the first part of her talk was about "dispelling the myth of the superperson:
balancing life's competing priorities". after the presentation i told her
about the message that is on the sign outside Thomas Jefferson High School
for Science and Technology here in northern virginia: "Friends, Good Grades,
Sleep - pick two".

very approachable and easy to talk with, she was interested in my question
about a more quantitative stool amount/volume guideline. for now i'm sticking
with what i have. i would like for a gastroenterologist (with a good
knowledge of bf) to help figure this out.

very entertaining/funny, of course extremely knowledgable and experienced.
this is the third time i've heard her speak in the last few years, and my
impression is that she consistently progresses in updating her opinions,
guidelines and advice.
