Inspect the hive 4 days after the event you describe. Look for eggs. If
there are eggs in the hive you still have a queen. If you killed the
queen you will find no eggs but all other stages of brood- young larvae,
pupae, ect. If you determine that there is no queen and the hive is
worth saving, introduce a new one now. By spring it will be too late.
