I've used OA for the past 4 or 5 years with no ill effects.  Keep in mind, you are only applying a few ml per bee space.  The clusters keep warm and the bees eagerly clean themselves.  They don't get soaked.  The recommendation is to trickle when the temp is above freezing.  I pick a nice day because it's nicer for me. :)
