This is a perrenial question here on BEE-L and, as such, has been discussed
in detail. The archives contain insights by by both those who know and
move truckloads of bee daily, and also by those with less experience and
userstanding and who therefore depend on the 'two mile' rule.

The real answer is 'depends', and the determining factors are many: season,
colony size, condition, weather, flow conditions, terrain, flight activity,
etc. etc.

Check out the archives, using a search, and you'll find that, assuming you
do not move them in peak season on a strong flow, that you can likely move
without many returning. Even if some are seen coming back, the returning
bees *may* just be checking out the old location, and not stay unless you
put a hive or other attraction there.

The archives also contain suggestions for confining the bees for three days,
etc. ...and caveats.

Good luck. Hope this helps.
