Grants post included this quote:
In the briefest of summaries, as the queens aged, their eggs decreased in
size as did the embryos inside. Smaller embryos had higher embryo mortality.



Bro. Adams observed that failing older queens produced inferior eggs/queens.
He also observed that a queen that had a restricted  egg laying area
produced better eggs/queens.
I have never found any observation of his contradicted by my own experience.
He also noted that the total criteria for % queen acceptance is queen age at
time of intro-varying somewhat w/race of bees. Again I have found this
completely substantiated by my own experience.
