I think after all the cell size debate we have seen on Bee-L the research of Dr. Elbert Jaycox sums the situation correctly.

Bees are capable of drawing cell size approx 17% smaller or larger than their size.

All different sizes are present in most hives but usually smaller in the brood nest as in honey storage areas.

I have saw workers raised in drone cells and emerge normal size.

I kept for years in my office a plastic green drone cell frame which was drawn with solid worker cell in the center
