While it is true that folks tend to skim, or fail to finish longer pieces -- I find that I do not agree with most of what I see posted. I see excessive wooly thinking on the part of many non-scientists, and impatient arrogance from many scientists. Somewhere in the middle stand I, trying to get people to think more deeply, more independently and to consider their audiences more sympathetically. Science is important, but it isn't everything. Yet the most certain among us tend to be the most uninformed. We must proceed intelligently from a position of great uncertainty.
