You may need to book a replacement speaker, Mark. Here is an email I got
just after I posted from someone who apparently does not want to post it to
the list himself:

"the Idaho Honey Industry Association Board) announc[ed] Dr. Lundgren as our
keynote speaker on Dec 3-4.
This evening, the website (http://www.idahohoney.org/conference.html) has a
couple of holes where he was originally scheduled to speak."

If it will help, I can come up and talk about Fischer's Nectar Detector and
how everyone should weigh all their hives throughout winter and early
spring, but that would be a blatant plug, wouldn't it? :)

Also, he spoke at the AHPA 2015 meeting, and the bio they put on their
website ( http://www.ahpanet.com/?page=2015ConventionReg ) said "Lundgren
has served as Panel Manager for NIFA's Biotechnology Risk Assessment Grants
Program for two years and on the EPA's scientific advisory panel to assess
the safety of RNAi-based pesticides." so it does not seem that he was doing
a butterfly study out of the blue, or lacked for endorsement of his
qualifications in the area of pesticide assessments.

So, we can name this "The Silence of the Labs", or perhaps "Butterflies
AREN'T Free", depending upon if you like Anthony Hopkins or Goldie Hawn.
But it seems pretty clear that the USDA ARS is at least presuming to pass
judgement on the merits of the research of its own staff, and worse yet,
attempting to retaliate against messengers bringing bad news. But if
beekeepers don't stand up for USDA ARS entomologist researchers, no one else
will, as no one else knows that the USDA even has any entomologists. I'm
callin' my congresscritter.
