They say it is the first documented instance of a parasite manipulating its
host to avoid being eaten.

I heard a parasitologist on our Canadian science radio show "Quirks and
Quarks" describe how a brain parasite makes rats "less afraid" of cats, and
when it infects humans *may* make them more likely to take risks in order to
make its host more LIKELY to be eaten (which the parasite needs).
