"The key insight of our work is that the global virus pandemic in honeybees
is human-made, not natural. It's therefore within our hands to mitigate this
and future disease problems."

The fact that the pandemic is both global and human-made clearly means that
it is NOT within OUR (beekeepers') hands to mitigate this.

Let me just try to list all the treaties and agreements that promote
completely unregulated "free trade", where what should be the cost of the
shipper to avoid shipping pests and pathogens are externalized on
bystanders, like agriculture, in the form of new invasive exotic pests and
pathogens. Testing by impartial parties, rather than mere self-serving
"self-certification" by shippers is not allowed under these treaties, under
penalty of retaliation, so governments throw their own farmers under the bus
all the time. You and your bees are a poker chip to be traded by someone
who sees only short-term profits, and short-term politics.
