>I am starting to get the sense that folks are deliberately misunderstanding what I say, just to have at it.

By no means does this describe me. I do my best to understand what you are saying.

>Maybe I deserve that.

I dunno....why would you think you deserve to be deliberately misunderstood?

>As to common sense...

I don't get what you are trying to say. You brought up common sense:

"It's just common sense that you look after your own health before..."

Weren't you saying that one should use the common sense to "look after your own health before blaming external forces"? ... or are you now contending that common sense is nonsense?

"As to common sense, it's like a belly button. Everybody has one, nobody uses it. Einstein said (he really said this one) 'Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.' "

I'm very deliberately trying to understand what you are saying and to not misunderstand you, but I'm confused as you seem to be saying opposite things in different posts regarding common sense.

To get back to what I think I'm disagreeing with, you previously stated:

"My point was that healthy organisms are far better able to resist environmental onslaughts, whether natural or man-made. This is not an excuse for continuing to pollute. "

...except that we know that otherwise healthy organisms often become less healthy when exposed to environmental onslaughts (and if Jeff Pettis is correct in his statements, this is true of undetectable amounts of some substances), making them _less_ able to resist environmental onslaughts, be they toxins or pathogens.

Chicken, meet egg.
