Hi shannon

Indeed is very confusing after all we have talk about nosema and fumagilin.

All roads drive to Rome. I mean the drench figures around or what the label
says end up been the same amount of active ingrediente per bee, only in a
total different volume of solvent (ie. syrup).

Original Medivet mixing = 1 bottle of fumagilin (454 grams) in 380 Litres,
this is good for 100 colonies with 3 applications. Which is the same as
saying that you give each colony 1.3 litres of syrup with 1.5 grams of
fumagilin per application

In spring better to give 3 times with 5 to 7 days appart. The fourth
application is not really proved to be significant.

In the drench method it is recommended to dilute the bottle of fumagilin
(454 grams) in 76 litres, this is good for 100 colonies with 3 applications.
Which is the same as saying that you give each colony 0.25 litres of syrup
with 1.5 grams of fumagilin per application.

As you can recall, the point is not the syrup but the amount of fumagilin.
On both cases you are giving a total of 4.5 grams of fumagilin per colony.

Now, what is a colony? Basically as per medivet leaflet a colony is a one
chamber with around 18.000 bees.

Therefore, you are giving each bee (assuming they all take the same amount
of syrup)

4.5 grams / 18.000 bees = 0.25 mg/bee

Based on an argentinian researcher, fumagilin is effective at a 90% rate
given in syrup during 3 weeks, and you should lower your nosema level to
under 1 million.

Therefore if you have 15 millions, in the first round you should lower your
counts to 1.5 millions, ergo you should give a second full treatment (3
weeks) to lower under the threshold.

Other people says the threshold is 5 millions for nosema ceranae, so with
one round should be enough.
