I think the point being made is exhaust fumes and their effects.  Try riding in a vehicle for any length of time with exhaust fumes coming into the passenger compartment.  That's what reference is being made.

So, modifications should be made in directing clear air to the bees on the flat bed trailer behind the tractor????
