>( Paulose) like Mike Palmer uses

I added Mike Palmer's name as I started using his method after Mike posted
his method on BEE-L ( with modifications for hives on pallets as Mike does
not keep his hives on pallets ( or at least did not back then)

> I am unaware of this scale, and Google is no help.

The scale Mike uses is the Pelouse utility no. 5w587 . I tried one of these
but returned to Grainger and picked up the Pelouse digital no. 4TH72 with
the 9 foot cord so I could weigh hives by myself.

These scales are on page 2011 of the 2009-2010 Grainger big catalog.

The scale weighs to 400 pounds I believe from memory ( now that I have
closed the Grainger book).

A platform is needed to hold the hive ( made by beekeeper) as the platform
on both scales is not the right size for a hive *without a bottom board* but
maybe OK for Mike's hives with a bottom board.

The tool I use to move the hive from the 4 way pallet to the scale is the
same tool we use to move hives around from pallet to pallet. A wonderful
invention and really saves the back breaking work of adjusting hives from
pallet to pallet before moving or at the holding yard.

The dolly I use is sold by Mann lake pg. 93 MH-105 ( 2009 catalog) . The
price has went up considerable since i bought mine years ago but I still say
a bargain as other than adding a little air in the tires once in awhile we
have moved thousands of boxes with the EZ Lift.
. The "EZ Lift is half aluminum which makes the dolly fairly light and has
two settings. The upper setting is for moving hive bodies from pallet to
pallet and the lower setting is for moving hives with bottom boards around.

I have sold countless numbers of these for Mann lake to commercial
beekeepers. I wish I had had the lift fifty years ago! My help loves the
lift! You can move a double deep hive from pallet to pallet with one hand.

I obviously can judge the amount of feed needed to over winter but when a
hive is really light and I weigh I write the amount of feed (in Gallons) I
want pumped and the before weight on the top . Each time the help feeds a
gallon they change the box writing by a gallon.

usually in drought years I use the scale. I have not needed to weigh this
fall.
