In the Q&A section of the most recent American Bee Journal, Jerry Hayes
suggested that Oxalic Acid (OA) vaporization was tough on the bees and
their sensitive organs. I would think that the drizzle would also be
tough.
Has anyone seen any research on this? Some antidotal results indicate that
the vaporization is Ok and the bees are back to normal in a few minutes.

Have you read the work on Randys site? There is quite a bit of it, with
notations' so you can look further. Dig hard as sometimes the orginzation
of the site lets you pass good articles.

One of the main concerns with it being hard on them, is the best treatment
is when they are broodless, the concern (shown mortality) is that the bees
are then clustered and cannot rid their bodies of the Acid. It seems if I
recall properly the data showed about 15% greater mortality. Pretty sure
randy said he couldn't replicate it, but his hives being further south,
never really get clustered and unable to void the gut.
