i don't have anything handy on the diet of forager bees, but my impression has been that adult workers are essentially "built" by the time they are a few days old, and eat pollen/beebread for the protein to produce bee milk (royal jelly and brood food).

after they are done with nursing duties, they are essentially disposable machines that run on honey until they wear out (ie, they don't utilize protein).

do you have any data that indicates adult foragers are fed jelly?
