>A friend gave me this box - which he says was described by the antique
dealer as a Queen Box. The box is a 3" cube. There is a sliding wood entry-closure on the bottom.?

I believe this is a box used in the old days for finding bee trees. Foragers were captured in the box which contained a bit of honeycomb and the floor had a layer of chalk. Through the observation port, one could see when the bees had tanked up. The prisoners were then released and could be followed since they were covered with chalk dust.
