I wonder if this is a chicken/egg problem. Many virus were existent in
honeybees before Varroa but were more curiosity issues than beekeeping
issues. Tracheal was the first pest to bring them out and Varroa has done
the same but much more so.

So if you have a virus in the wild and it spreads because of a vector, is
that caused by the beekeeper or the vector? It seems to be more like any
virus spreading because of contact with the carrier.

So the statement, " It's therefore within our hands to mitigate this and
future disease problems." says that we can eradicate the spread of virus. I
am sure modern medicine would like to know how that is done. No more flu or
common cold.
