Yes, thanks.  The original sounded like evasive bafflegab to me. 

I like your version better, although I now see you are saying the same thing, only plainly.  Are there subleties that caused the original author to weasel?  (Don't answer that).

Leaving out "apparent" and "effective" sounds more straightforward and honest, since what is "apparent dominance", really?
