    Hi Everyone,

I read with partial disgust and partial envy that George was
faced with the problem of putting supers on his hive in January while
I have to shovel my way to my hives to see how they are doing! But
now that I have that off my chest...
This summer when I bought my two hives I only bought the brood
chambers and when I got them home I too had to put on supers of
foundation. The bees then proceeded to draw out the foundation, when
I moved those frames that were nearly drawn out to the outside of the
super I found that they preferred to continue drawing out the frame
that they had started. The problem then was that some frames were
oversized while the neighbouring frame was undersized. My solution
to the problem was to position frames that were nearly drawn out face
to face and move the pair of frames to the outside of the super.
This helps reduce the tendency to draw one frame out more that the
other. You may have to fiddle around with the organization several
times until all the frames are drawn out.
I hope that this helps you out a little bit and best of luck with
your bees. I just keep trying to remember that Spring is only a few
short months away.
