We had the pleasure of having Ms Jennifer Berry as a presenter at our yearly fall meeting (Alabama) and she advocated caging the queen in each hive for 14 days and then treating with OAV seven (I think) days after the release of the queen. ( I think this is the recommendation for those of us who are considered to be residing in the southern tier of states.)  This would produce an artificial broodless period within the colony and insure all the mites within the colony were in a phoretic condition and thus exposed to OAV.
