Not completely buried, but getting close.  It would be nice if my hives were completely buried and would stay that way until mid-April.  It would save wrapping and I know some very good beekeepers who shovel snow on their hives, but around here, it can melt away in a day or two.  We get Chinooks, and so I wrap.  I wrap to keep them from getting too warm too quickly, and to keep them from chilling off too quickly at night or with a weather change.

I finally got out and finished the job today.  The temperature is as warm as we can expect for a while (if we can trust the weather guessers): minus fourteen Celsius (~7 degrees F).

I like to finish wrapping by the beginning of winter, so I am a week or two late, but the wrapping does not make much difference until late winter and early spring whern the bees are older and fewer and brood is expanding.
