Randy,

Andrew Wakefield and company are/were scientists (and doctors) but in this case they weren't "working".  The paper was fraudulent and proven so.  They didn't actually do a rigorous study to back up their claims.  They didn't properly conduct an experiment.  They manipulated their information to make it look compelling.

So...where was the work?  They were cheating and they were discredited as a result.
