Thank you Charlie--we need so much more myth busting.



Just for clarification,  I in no way intended to discount the observation mentioned.   There are indeed some areas that do desiccate wheat, Northern Canada and Europe it is standard practice.   Wet weather in Europe,  and short season in other areas require it at times.   

How much of that makes it into US food, is questionable and hard to pin down.


I was referring to the common myth a lot of gluten sensitive sites are promoting in Roundup being to blame.

In the US margins on wheat are so small,  that the idea of the additional cost of desiccation,  added to the crop loss( run over by sprayer)  makes desiccations EXTREMLY rare.  Not many are willing to give up ~10% of an already small margin.

Crop harvesting is a specialty of mine,  and in my real bailiwick.  US operations are normally much drier at harvest than our EU counterparts.  As such harvesting equipment and practices are very different.  That is quite different than some of the articles would have you belive.
