Allen,
     I was under the impression that mites mate with their siblings.  If
such is the case, there would be no interbreeding.   Maybe I'm operating
under a misconception.

Mike,
     I asked Gloria DeGrande-Hoffman this very question. What you say is
true. She answered that "they do a great number of remarkable things!" From
that I took it that they do evolve but it was more complex than a quick
answer could explain.
