"Crisco" is a brand name for an American vegetable shortening. I don't
know how widely available it is internationally. I have heard rumors
(sorry, can't substantiate them) that Crisco seems to work better as
a mite control than other brands - nobody seems very sure that this is
really true, or even why Crisco would work better than similar products,
but I've heard more than once "I don't know why, but Crisco works better".
I suspect there has not been any formal research on this - just some
anecdotal evidence from various beekeepers.
