I am not a fan of 8-frame equipment in my area (upstate NY). 16 frames
seem too few for a winter configuration, so I run 3 deep for 24 winter
frames. Stacking the requisite supers above that quickly makes a
skyscraper hive and I am not fond of working a hive from a step ladder. It
also seems to me that the bees get swarmy faster in 8-frame equipment.
Mind you, this is based on a comparison of one 8-frame hive that I won 2
bee-seasons ago as a door-prize in an operation of 150+- 10-frame hives.
Not a fan, but YMMV.
