I have one existing hive in my backyard

Installing a package next to an existing colony should not be a problem. But keep in mind that if you feed them sugar syrup it’s best to do so via an in-hive feeder, as the entrance feeders are more prone to robbing. And of course, use an entrance reducer at its smallest opening till they get established.
