I looked through the archives for information on dealing with shrews. I have some hives getting hit pretty hard, allot of body parts and big pieces of wax on the bottom boards. I found this posted by Viktor in Hawkesbury, Ontario

with a cutout 3/8" deep by approx. 4" length) by hammering in 5/8"
finishing nails one in each end that touches the ends of the cutout and
then one every 3/8 inches in a straight line in the middle of the

This was in response to a question Allen posted in 1997, Allen did you try this?  It sounds like making a hardware cloth pattern out of nails? I can not really visualize the nail thing, I am hoping Allen made one and took a picture. Or Viktor if you are out there can you respond. What about the hole and the second hive body box, can a shrew make it up there if I adapt the entrance reducer? 

Is there a solution for shrews?
