I prefer blue "shop towels"s to the cords.  Six shop towels (purchased from any auto supply deparment like a Wal-Mart) will soak up one cup of canola oil.  I fold the towels into fourths, soak over night, then toss in the hive over the brood chamber.
   
  The rest I like as well.  My experience has been these are not "instant" cures but work best over time.
