A few years ago whilst visiting beekeepers in Nova Scotia I saw that they
had devised a motorised wire brush for cleaning excluders. It was basically
about six (150mm x 25mm) wire wheels mounted on a single shaft, and coupled
to a motor via a "V" belt. The wheels were set into a small bench and the
excluders were just slide across them. It worked really well when it was
cold. Ideal for Canadian winters! I have been cleaning mine with steam from
an old wax melter but find that the wire bound excluder becomes black, and
that this "blackness" (oxide) is transferred to the next seasons wax. I
should build myself a wheelly cleaner?
