I was a little dumbfounded(ok, a lot dumbfounded) by this posting.  As
far as I know Schubert LOVED Beethoven although he felt he was living in
Beethoven's shadow to an even greater extent than Brahms did.  Actually,
it is possible that Schubert despised Beethoven the man.  Who could really
ever know Schubert's innermost feelings other than Schubert himself? It
would honestly be highly likely that Schubert hated Beethoven as a result
of his deep envy.  Who really knows? Noone REALLY knows but it is some food
for thought.
