Alex North was hired to write the music for the film, but saw his score scuttled when Kubrick became enamored of the music (Ligeti's and others) he had heard over and over again on the temp tracks during the editing process. IMO too much blather has been written about Kubrick's "conscious choices" in his films, when most of the time the guy never could make up his mind, harboring an "idee fixe" for years and then suddenly changing his mind completely on a momentary caprice. His last effort must be seen at best as a work in progress. John Dalmas [log in to unmask]
