>My curiosity > is piqued... Is oversupply underreported simply because we tend to work > w/ women who have problems w/ low supply for whatever reasons just like > we tend to hear the bad news on TV more than we hear the good stuff? In a word, yes :-) I think breast size may have something to do with it (clinical observation) but I don't think it is the very large or very small breasts that have problem. I also really think part of it has to do with strong let-down, body response to oxytocin. Then if you combine mom with strong let-down to baby with enthusiastic suck or big suck needs there seems to be more of a problem. We worry more about mismanaged lactation that leads to FTT. I don't think the average person appreciates the problems associated with over-supply because it isn't dealt with much. (Problems: mom-over full, leaky breasts, painful let-down, frequent PD or mastitis; baby-gassy, colicky, greenish explosive stools, irritable, unsettled, extreme weight gain). Excellent idea for research, however I can just see how it would be reported :-) Sincerely, Pat in SNJ *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
