I think the EMI CD of Lili Boulanger's music that Steve Schwartz referred to is a new recording. An old Everest LP I've treasured for years conducted by Igor Markevitch and with a similar program finally made it to CD on EMI Matrix with some pieces for violin and piano added. The major piece is Du fond de l'abime and her Pie Jesu is, IMHO, just superb! The recordings are not state of the art, of course, but the performances are thrilling. I owe Markevitch a lot - there were quite a few of his records around in the 60s. In particular, I've loved his Verdi Requiem, Mozart Coronation Mass, Berlioz Damnation (abridged) and a dodgily-recorded but passionate Brahms 4th. He was a great conductor. I might eventually get to like his own music. Richard Pennycuick [log in to unmask]
