Hi, >I have a mom who is becoming very discouraged. She has been pumping for >weeks now. Baby was 2 lb at birth. Her milk has never been used. Only >Progestimil (sp?)through a feeding tube. The baby is not having bowel >movements consistently and our Neonatology team (Drs. and ARNPs) agree >the baby can not have moms milk until he tolerates the formula. What if he never tolerates the formula? I have met several babies who could not digest anything but mother's milk. In fact, I know of at least one NICU that do not permit the use of formula at all on premies, for the very reason that breastmilk is much more readily tolerated. I am not a medic, but this doesn't make any sense to me. -- Anna H.
