A few months ago, "Fresh Air" had a radio program on the late Eubie Blake,
who wrote, among other things, "I'm Just Wild about Harry". According to
the program, it was originally written as a waltz, but Blake was advised to
revise it because waltzes were white folks' rhythms dances and would be out
of place in a musical about people of color, so he did. It was played in
waltz time on the radio program and sounded very good.
